Social/Networking
A key purpose of Legacy is to allow you to build valuable personal connections and to enable those relationships to develop.
We’ll kick off with the most basic, and least challenging, of icebreakers, splitting into two groups, then into pairs. Each pair will be given a total of four minutes to ask and answer pre-set questions about your professional life, designed to allow the pairs to get to know each other quickly. After four minutes, we’ll change partners and the activity repeats until every managing partner has met the others in their group.

Social/Networking
We’ll meet in the lobby of the Goodwood Hotel to set off for the Hillclimb – a gentle 1.6 mile walk on the Goodwood Estate.
We’ll split into two groups, each with its own guide.
An iconic feature of Goodwood’s Festival of Speed, this unassuming stretch of road becomes one of motor racing’s most challenging courses. For today’s walkers, we’ll have great views of Goodwood and the rolling Sussex hills. We’ll pause at the top for a look out over the Goodwood Estate.
We’ll be collected from the top of the Hillclimb for a swift return to the Goodwood Hotel and breakfast or free time. Or, feel free to walk back to the Hotel.

We recommend that attendees check out after breakfast and before the programme begins at 9:00 in the Supershell Hangar, which is a 5-minute drive from the Goodwood Hotel. As today’s programme finishes after the Hotel’s check-out time of 11:00, we assume that most attendees will drive themselves to the final venue and depart from there. If you are not travelling by car, we will ensure that either a colleague or one of our team drives you. Please let us know if you need help arranging this transport.

This morning we re-locate to the Super Shell hangar on the Goodwood Motor Circuit track. In this atmospheric setting, with racing taking place on the track outside, we’ll finish the retreat with a series of sessions that will leave you inspired and exhilarated.
Instead of stopping for breaks, morning refreshments will be available throughout.

Shape of the legal market (part III)

The Sixth Generation Law firm
Since the late 19th century, law firms have evolved from being tiny, generalist legal practices into the large, sophisticated modern advisory businesses that we know today. This evolution has taken place through a number of clear “generations”, each responding to changes in the market with a clear step-change in business model. We stand on the threshold of another step-change. How will the most successful, “best-of-breed” medium sized law firms of 2024-2030 be different to those of the past decade? What must remain constant, amidst such change? How are client needs changing and how will this impact the services that they will buy from law firms? What do law firm leaders need to do in order to align their businesses with emerging market realities?

AI and your firm’s legacy – what decisions should you be taking now both to face the threat and exploit the opportunity?
Most firms are taking perfectly logical steps to address the challenges that AI presents – logical steps that are aligned to their incentives. But, as experience from previous industrial transformation shows, logical steps limited by short term incentives may eventually lead to extinction. What can you do now to help your firm to thrive in the age of AI? What can you do now to “plant trees you will never see”?
